Get ready to be transported to Prince Edward Island as I transform my daughter’s room into a whimsical Anne of Green Gables inspired guest room!
It was finally time! My girls have grown up and some are away at school and my oldest is getting married later this year, it’s a bittersweet time to be moving into an “empty nester” stage. What better way to spend my time than converting my girls’ old room into a beautiful and dreamy guest space?

I’ve known this day was coming and have been pinning inspiration on Pinterest for years, and more recently sat down to put together a specific mood board of what I wanted the room to feel like.
My thoughts on the space were that I wanted to emphasize the coziness of this smaller attic room with slanted ceilings, and I wanted it to feel like a place that Anne Shirley herself would want to stay if she were coming to visit.
I love the look of full coverage wallpaper in rooms like this, and so that’s what we decided to do! We went with “Grey Toile” from Livette. This was the first time I had purchased wallpaper from them, and from start to finish, I was very happy with the experience!
They had beautiful large samples that make it very easy to help envision the wallpaper in your own space, and their customer service was wonderful. I felt like they really cared for us as the customer and wanted us to succeed.
Because we were papering both the walls and the slanted ceiling, they recommended I get a professional to do my installation.
Lucky for me – the professional happens to be my husband, Colby! He’s truly the master wall-paperer, and carefully installed piece after piece over the course of a few days for a beautiful end result.
Because our house is so old, there is rarely a straight edge to be found. That being said, he highly recommends using a laser level for a job like this one!
For the trim, we used the color “French Grey” by Farrow & Ball. One of my favorite ways to incorporate beautiful Farrow & Ball colors, but at a slightly smaller cost is to color match them to my local Sherwin Williams store!
We painted all of the trim in the room, and the built in original bead-board closet. I love how the color makes the character in this space pop!
We used the same French Grey color for both the inside and outside of the door, as well.
Because I wanted this room to feel a bit more like a special hotel room, we added a brass room number tag on the outside. I love seeing this touch from the hallway.
This vintage brass bed was a Facebook marketplace find, but it was on the other side of the state from me! I wasn’t sure if I was going to do it, but I made the decision to drive for hours to pick it up! Here’s the full vlog for that trip on YouTube.
At first I was a bit disappointed because it was a bit more dinged up than I had hoped it would be, but I had driven all that way, so I picked it up anyway and after some google searches – found a great way to polish it up so that it has just the perfect amount of patina.
I pulled out my sweet round jute rug for the middle of the room.
The throw blanket is one of my favorites from Brooklinen.
It’s luxurious and soft and with beautiful texture.
The rest of the bedding elements were thrifted finds. Some from recent excursions, and some I’d found previously.
The room officially has our “kitty seal of approval”.
This writing desk was another Facebook Marketplace find.

I styled the desk with one of my slipcovered parson’s chairs. I love the mixture of a more ornate desk with a sleek chair with simple and understated lines.
This antique wooden dresser was also from the FB marketplace. It was a perfect fit for this space at the end of the bed, and I love the detailing and the pulls.

This style of lamp is called a French Bouillotte. I found mine on Etsy.
I found this beautiful boat hat while antiquing with my daughter after her graduation! (Vlog HERE)
Isn’t it just the most fitting addition to an Anne of Green Gables style guest room?
Behind the door we’ve tucked a gold oval frame mirror, and my suitcase stand with a thrifted doctor’s bag for a rich pop of brown.
I had been kicking myself for having given away a similar suitcase stand that I had found at a yardsale for $2! I realized after I parted with it that they are actually a well known and sought after piece. This one I found online for $75, which is at least a bit better than the $150 they sometimes reach online!
I ordered a vintage style ribbon from Etsy, and painted the wood in Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore.

I searched and searched and could not find a set of un-lacquered brass sconces that I loved for quite some time. After getting in multiple options and not loving any of them, I came across an artist on Etsy, Matt Alford, who makes custom vintage replicas! These were a bit of a splurge, but after finding all of the other furniture pieces second hand and for good prices, I was willing to spend more for these custom pieces.
They were just what I was looking for!
We added in a few more vintage details like a vintage style push button light switch, and antique style brass cover plates for both the light switch and outlets.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this peak into my Anne of Green Gable’s style Guest Room! Please let me know if you have any questions!
