If you are in the market for some farmhouse style bedroom ideas, you came to the right place. I am about to work some magic on this room in our 1906 farmhouse.
I took a little breather from room makeovers after the big farmhouse living room reveal.
But, now I am ready to focus again- this time on the master bedroom. I shared a full tour of the befores on my Instagram stories, but I will share some of the before shots here.
Originally, this room was two rooms, the front room was a bedroom and the back room was the sewing room. Someone had already taken out the wall when we got here, but there were still remnants of the chimney coming up through the floor dividing the two old rooms.
It is a nice big room now, about 15′ x 20′.
The best part about making two rooms into one is the resulting THREE closets in one room. This is the view from the bedroom door, closet #1.
Note- all the walls will be white soon.
I would love to add some shiplap or wallpaper in there and will be leaving it open. That dresser is in really good shape and I have had it since grade school. But, I’m thinking of stripping it and adding glass pulls.
Then, as we pan the room, this alcove is where I work . . . notice the baseboards that need to be installed and closet #2.
Not having closet doors with the clothes is torture for me, but I don’t just want closet doors. I want something more custom that makes them feel more like armoires. The ideas are swirling my head and I will be sharing what we come up with!
Then, our bed.

The side on the right is mine and there is a mess of photography gear, a printer and business files on the floor. I would love to create a faux card catalog nightstand wide enough to hold all the necessary clutter there.
And nothing is off limits when I re-do a room, this bed might even get lighter. However, I will be hiring an upholstery professional if I replace that leather- that is waaaay out of my league!
Next up on our little tour, is closet #3. Also, I’m thinking those two lamps on the nightstands will be painted to look like wood.
The two parsons chairs have very worn burlap slipcovers I made a few summers back. At the end of the season, I threw them in the wash and it really did a number on them. So, I have some beautiful linen ready to make into new slipcovers. I plan to do a video of the process for you.
The mantle is going to be simplified- corbels coming off, t.v. in armoire and less decor on the top.
I have visions of herring bone brick inside the fireplace and a limestone finish.
Maybe even an arched opening like this one from Jessica Hucker!
Finally, as we turn completely around, across from the foot of the bed is this dresser. I would love to replace it with a sweet little armoire, one that I could hide the t.v. (for my workouts) in and leave one door open with linens showing.
The air conditioner is an eye-sore and will be going away soon.
Lastly, the lamp. There is a funny story about that lamp.
After my grandma died, when I was in the first grade, we were all standing around her house dividing up her things.
I was all wide-eyed at how easy it was to get free things and wanted to fit in with the adults, so I mustered up my seven-year old courage and blurted out, “I’ll take the lamp!” just to see if it would work.
Everyone stopped, looked at me and started oohhing and ahhhing about what a sweet little Sarah I was and how darling that I would want Grandma’s lamp.
They totally gave it to me!
But, what nobody knows is – I never really wanted the lamp, I just wanted to be cool.
So, here I am forty years old, still packing Grandma’s lamp around every time I move.
My friends, the time has come. I am going to let this lamp go, the lamp I never wanted!
Ok, glad I got that off my chest! And, Grandma, I’m really sorry about all this.
The End
And, with that, I want to hear from my dear readers.
I put together a little mood board with some ideas of a new look. What do you think of the black accents? Yay or nay??
