Easy 4th of July Salad

This is my go-to salad any time I need something with a patriotic flair. The best part is that it only takes two ingredients and it is simple enough to delegate to kids when I am in pinch. Such an easy 4th of July Salad!

Normally, we will stay close to home for the Fourth, but if we do go anywhere it is usually to my in-laws.  They live in a small town that is semi-famous for it’s Fourth of July celebrations.   I’m not kidding when I say they work all year on their floats for the parade!

The contests, food and fireworks are really well done and our family has this little spot in front of the realtor’s office where we like to sit and watch the fireworks.

If we do go, I like to go all out and make fried chicken, pies and homemade lemonade.  However, if all else fails, I have the kids make this watermelon blueberry salad.

Need a quick and easy salad for the 4th of July? How about one that takes just two ingredients? Here is a cute one using only blueberries and watermelon!

And, yes, that’s it. Watermelon and blueberries. No secret ingredients here.

  • Lay your watermelon on its side and slice it like its a loaf of bread.  After I cut about half of it this way, I lay it face down and continue slicing like I’m cutting a tree.  (haha, you like my analogies??)
  • Next, take a star shaped cookie cutter and punch out as many stars as you can from your slices.
  • Toss all these in a large bowl and mix in your blueberries.
  • (Optional- if you have chickens, share your watermelon scraps with them, they love them!)

Such a cute side dish with minimal effort!  I am always on the lookout for these kinds of hostessing hacks and will be sure to share them on the blog with you when I find ones I love!!
