Beautiful French Garden Style Front Porch Details

Nothing says spring like a decorated front porch! I styled mine with French garden style this year – and I can’t wait to share it with you.

Normally my front porch is the first thing I decorate each season, but the weather this year was pretty stormy and so I worked on a few spaces inside the house first – but as soon as we had a period of time with nicer weather I was outside getting my French garden & storefront inspired front porch all styled up!

It feels so nice once it’s done! The front porch really has the opportunity to be the most welcoming place in the whole house! If you think of it, it’s the one place a guest to your home is guaranteed to see!

French Garden Front Porch Makeover & Spring Styling

I’ve been very inspired on Pinterest by French store-fronts this season, so I wanted elements of my design to have that same feel.

As usual, I started my whole project off by giving the porch a deep clean and a few quick maintenance tasks like repainting our door with Artissimo Milk Paint by Miss Mustard Seed. Our new puppy is almost a year old, but she still likes scratching on the door and she’s done a real number on the older paint job.

Luckily I still love the color, so I’m just needing to touch up some spots, rather than painting the entire door. I finished it with a coat of clear wax (that works as a bit of a conditioner), and then a light coat of dark wax to help bring out some depth and the details and patina of the wood.

Another detail I added in was a vintage style door bell. We have the same one on our front door, and our puppy has gotten the hang of ringing that bell when she wants to come in, instead of scratching at the door! I’m hopeful that she’ll do the same thing on this door once she sees her door bell!

I get asked often about our door mat – it’s actually iron! I love how sturdy it is against the pets and our family’s boots. You can find similar styles on Amazon.

I had purchased this white shelf for $2 years ago, and it’s been in storage with no where to go. We had the idea to hang it here under the window and I love that it feels like a window box once filled with plants in sweet ceramic pots.

If you would like to make your own DIY antique crocks – I have a tutorial HERE.

This pretty bench under the window is another thrifted find, although this one was found by my daughters and purchased for $5!

I painted it a year or so ago in the color Lichen by Fusion Mineral Paint – and I still LOVE it.

Around the bench I styled a variety of fresh and faux plants to add to the French store-front, marketplace feel.

And of course a vintage green linen book.

The hellebores I bought included sweet little faux birds nests. I placed one here on the shelf – and the other you’ll have to keep reading to find out about.

When I shared this sweet rectangular basket during my Thrifted Basket YouTube video – one of my followers mentioned that if you had a basket in a similar size and shape, you could add a piece from a leather belt to create the strap for hanging! Isn’t that such a creative idea?

On the other side of the porch I set up my trusty bistro table set from IKEA.

I purchased this years ago and it’s been such a versatile piece. For this porch, I can imagine it being a real bistro table on a French street.

On top of the table I styled some black violas, a sweet bird picture in a glass reese frame that I got a few years ago at Brimfield, and my thrifted candle box with the second sweet birds nest hidden inside.

To the side of the porch I placed my now weathered French Garden Tuteurs in front of the window that holds my window box. I loved how they looked when they were fresh and new, but the patina on them is beautiful, too.
