Bee Inspired Home Decor

Sharing is caring!

Did you know that the honey bee used to be a sign of royalty in France?  Its simplicity and beauty incorporates perfectly with vintage home design.  I have compiled a selection of bee inspired home decor for you as we round out this summer season.

Some of you may already know this, but I have been keeping bees and harvesting honey for the past six or so years.  This year, my youngest daughter has joined me and we worked hard all spring in our two hives.

If you follow me on Instagram, I will be sharing our busy day processing the “liquid gold” on my IG stories.

We love to celebrate our honey harvest each year in different ways.

So, in honor of the mesmerizing and delicate honey bee, I give you this compilation of bee inspired home decor.

This week I am giving away a vintage bee poster I constructed (tutorial coming) and a set of four bee tumblers, made in France.  My sister bought me a set of the glasses from Ballard Designs about ten years ago for my birthday and they have been one of my prized possessions ever since.

I think you will adore them, too!

Love the vintage bee poster! We had a swarm of bees show up this spring and we purchased a hive so we are learning as we go. I would love to learn more about them.

That is amazing about the swarm, good for you!

We used to keep bees years ago, and still have a large extractor. We had upwards of 30 hives, but lost them to mites, I believe. We never rebuilt, but I hope my husband will one day, perhaps on a smaller scale! I would love to share the bee poster and glasses with him!

    • Sarah | She Holds Dearly
      August 18, 2017 / 6:36 AM

Oh, I’m sorry to hear that. Wow, thirty hives! We had three once, but it was too many bees out and about for my family. So, two seems to be right these days.

The sweetest Bee I know…our daughter. As a small girl, she had her blood typed at a health fair. Upon finding out she is B+, our smiling girl exclaimed, “That’s me…
Be Positive!” So she immediately became our Bee. ?

We keep two hives! I’m trying to summon the courage to check them. They’re my daughter’s, and she just moved to Georgia. Last year she got 6 gallons of gorgeous honey! Our meadows are full of clover, and there are fruiting trees all around. The honey is so good.

I can see why you would feel that way and I may switch it back. But, what you may not realize is that the kids are right next to us, we can see each other and talk all we want.

I’m sooo glad I found your blog! My fiance and I started beekeeping last year and we love it so much! They’ve become our little children and we love taking care of them. Unfortunately we lost a hive this year and it made me so sad because we’ve done tons of research and tried doing everything by the book and still lost it. I would absolutely love if you did a beekeeping 101, I’m always looking for new resources for information. PS – I LOVE bee decorations! I’m even incorporating it into our wedding details!

I am fascinated by bees and I admire you for keeping a hive. Years ago there was a man in my church who had a hive. I asked to see it. I went to his home to see his hive and meet his bees. After dressing in protective gear I was given the opportunity to smoke out the bees. I have been enthralled since. I watch videos about bees and I read articles about bees and their importance to our environment. Having grown up in a farming community I understand the importance of pollinators. Author, Laurie King, wrote a novel called The Bee Keeper’s Apprentice. It is a Mary Russel novel. Mary Russel becomes the wife of Sherlock Holmes in these stories. I am charmed by her beautifully crafted sentences and captured by her intriguing mysteries. Hope you have an opportunity to read it.

I would be interested in a beekeeping 101! The most I have done for the vanishing bees is to plant white clover in the lawn and have lots of flowers that bees (and me!) like.
